First of all let me say that we have had Vonage now since Jan, 2006 and have been nothing but impressed. There has been the odd glitch of a delay in the line, but that was early on and only in about 1 in 100 calls, haven’t had that problem in a year or so. So very happy with them, especially for the price difference in having to call Canada to talk to my family.
About a month ago I realized that on our unlimited plan we were paying 24.99 a month but never used even 500 minutes a month. At that point I switched our plan to the 14.99 a month plan to save 10 bucks a month and save 120 dollars a year towards debt. A month later I logged in to see that this month we have used 493 minutes and tomorrow starts the new billing cycle. Talk about working out slick. Even if we go over the 500 minutes, it’s only 3 cents a minute after that, so I would need to talk another 333 minutes before it breaks even with the higher plan. I don’t talk 833 minutes a month. I actually don’t talk but about 33 minutes a month, it’s my wife that yaks all the time.
Anywho…. A coworker the other day mentioned how when he canceled his Vonage when he moved they begged and pleaded with him to stay and offered all kinds of freebies and incentives to keep his business. Hmmm…. This got me thinking.
So today I called Vonage and told hem I wanted to disconnect our service. Bam, before I knew it she was giving us a free month, I told her that I was thinking about switching to cable one’s VOIP service so I can get a bundle with our cable and BAM… we had two months free. It was funny because she was like ” Sir, I am crediting your account for two months of service as we speak, please reconsider…” It’s like they panic and try to do anything to keep you. I figured I could have probably gotten a third month, but I was already happy with 2. Nothing like some VOIP competition in the area to get some freebies.
LOL.
I logged in and sure enough our account balance was -40.51 (two months of service with taxes).
Sweet!
A 5 minute phone call saved me another 40 bucks. I don’t imagine this would work on them very often, but I bet ever other year they would give out an incentive. Hmmm… Who else can I call and threaten to disconnect next. LOL.
