<strong>How to get accepted for National Consumer Panel (Nielsen Homescan) freebies program: We’ve heard from several people who were recently accepted into the National Consumer Panel (formerly called Nielsen Homescan). This is the program where you get FREE prizes for scanning your groceries. Here’s what they said:

This is straight from Nielsen – When signing up, if you receive a message saying someone in your household has already registered (but never received an email saying you were accepted in the program), try signing up with a new email address!

I know we’ve heard from LOTS of people who’ve gotten this message, so give it a try! If you’ve never tried signing up, hurry BEFORE THEY REMOVE THE SIGN UP LINK AGAIN!

NOTE: The program is totally free. You do not pay anything for the scanner. They pay you in prizes for scanning your groceries. You do not pay them. I have personally been a member of this free program for about 6 months.

I’ve been taking paid surveys online for over 10 years. See my big list of legitimate paid survey sites.

Melissa…..how long were u on the waiting list?

Also, since getting on the waiting list last week I have been reading up on comments everywhere from people in and out of the program. I am so excited, but it seems like it is a ton of work and that it takes too long to get prizes. This is what I have heard…………
You have to scan each item, type in price, where it was bought and other stuff………..how long does this take??
That you have to type everything from your receipit into the scanner??
That the prizes are great but it takes years to get something good, is this true?

One reason I am worried about the time is that I go to the store or shopping atleast everyday, or buy gas, drinks, lunch, ect…….
Do you scan in clothes, toys, diapers as well???
Anyone who has done this please I am sooooo interested in hearing your experiance, I have suggested that we make it a topic in the forums.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS- I cant wait to get my scanner!!

Bdavis – we have been using the scanner for about 6 months. We have also been invited to a special panel through Nielsen where we earn extra points each week, and we get points for taking surveys, so this all adds up. You obviously cannot get a TV or gaming system overnight with this program, but we have more than enough points to get prizes already. I think we hit the 1st prize level around 2 or 3 months. But being in a special panel helps. They will invite you to some as you qualify – you have no control over what panels you may or may not qualify for, just like with paid surveys.

Also, at first I was overwhelmed, but now we are scanning pros. I estimate it takes maybe 10 minutes to scan a normal grocery trip, and we buy lots of groceries at one time, usually once a week. You may or may not have to input prices, depending on where you shop. Like any program, some will like it, some will not. If you decide it’s not for you, you can send the scanner back, and it will go to someone else. There is no charge at any time. But if you do like it, then you can save up for some cool prizes like us!

I have been getting emails from the for over year saying they are waiting for a spot to open up. I’ve about given up.

Thanks MSM, I AM excited…………I think I will try it and see how it goes, almost everyone said that it has made them find errors on thier reciepts, so that is a plus. Thanks

I tried 3 different emails and it still gives me the message about someone in my household already signing up.

i just got my scanner 2 days ago. it is really not that time consuming. i estimate it may take 10 min to scan a whole weeks worth of groceries. and yes the really good prizes do require a lot of points. so i have to do this once a week every week for say 2 years and than get a flat scree tv. that was totally worth it i think. it may not take that long though there are several ways to earn extra points. i am excited to get started. if after a while i decide i dont like it…return it all and drop out. but i might REALLY like it a lot. ill give it a try and you should too!

I got a message like Jessi’s saying that they were processing my request then I received an email saying that the person who had signed up should answer a brief shopping survey by March 31, 2010. Unfortunately, this email never included my nine digit panelist id. I called the number contained in the email and they gave me the number over the phone. As of this date, 4 days from March 4, 2010, I never was told if I was accepted in the program and I have not received a scanner. I’m going to call them today(Sunday) or tomorrow for an answer.

Thank You, MSM–Can’t wait to get started. If I am accepted I’ll sign-up into the forum so we can all get to know each other better. Seems like a great group here. Hope everyone is willing to give me a few tips. Wish Me Luck. Thanks

I still haven’t received a scanner but I did get a reply from an email that I sent about my status which said I was wait-listed. The strange thing is that I have gotten another survey to fill out for them but it doesn’t say anything about receiving any points or credit of any kind. Has anyone else had this happen to them.

I signed up for neilson and got an email link to click on that sayed click here to join. I filled out a bunch of information. When I click on that link again I get a message saying
Thank you for registering with the National Consumer Panel.
