Homemade Febreze: Ever wonder how to make your own homemade Febreze? We have a very simple homemade Febreze recipe! It’s so simply that ANYONE can make their own Febreze at home!
Homemade Febreze Recipe:
- 1/4 cup fabric softener
- 2 cups water
You can actually adjust the ratio of fabric softener to water based on how much scent you like. We typically use a free Downy or Snuggle fabric softener sample that we get in the mail. Put that in a spray bottle (reuse an old Febreze sprayer or buy a cheap plastic spray bottle at the store) and fill with water! Note: Some people do not like to use fabric softener for this or in laundry (due to chemical or flammability concerns, etc.), so you can also substitute essential oils instead. Experiment to find the amount of scent you like – a little bit of essential oils go a long way!
Do you have your own Homemade Febreze recipe? We’d love to hear it!

Thanks for this…the only thing I’d be worried about with using fabric softener is stains…I have been making my own “Febreze” with essential oils and water, I LOVE it!! No chemicals 🙂
I use one cup of distilled water with 15 drops of essential oils, I usually use an orange or lemon scented one. I know other people use lavender, and there are also linen scented oils that would smell EXACTLY like Febreze.
