Walgreens Rewards Program: Have any of you heard of the Walgreens Rewards program? Shannon just shared with us that Kansas City is one of the pilot markets for Walgreens Rewards which officially starts May 30, 2010. You can read the Walgreens Rewards FAQ for more info. If anyone has more details about Walgreens Rewards, let us know!

It is going to be similar to CVS

Portland, OR is also one of the pilot markets, and apparently you don’t have to live in the city itself – I’m in the suburbs south of Portland and I was asked at my local Walgreens if I wanted to sign up. I didn’t at that point because I was in a hurry, but I did online later.
This seems like a good program if you fill prescriptions at Walgreens – that’s how you earn the most points. 100 points for 30-day prescriptions, 300 points on a 90-day. And then 10 points for each dollar spent. At 2,000 points, you can request a $5 Walgreens Rewards certificate.
They give you 500 points as a sign-up bonus, too, which helps. I don’t shop at Walgreens often so it will take a while to earn enough points. Not sure it’s worth it for me but like I said, if that’s where you fill prescriptions, it’s a smart idea.

I am in the Kansas City test market and can say this program basically sucks. The points are NOT added to your account immediately, taking up to 2 weeks. You DO NOTget any Register Rewards on your receipt. You must log into WalgreensRewards.com to access your account. I signed up in the last 60 days and have yet to receive the 1000 Bonus points I was to receive after “Your next purchase of $20 or more”. It has been over 2 weeks and I need to call them on that issue. I had to call once already, and that was too get my card# issued to me at the store linked to the account name I set up at WalgreenRewards.com. It was not automatic and required the phone call. I had logged onto WalgreenRewards.com and set up my account 2 days after getting my in-store Rewards card. I assumed the in-store issued card would automatically link up to my on-line account. The in-store application requires an email address, full name & address, primary # and date of birth. It did not link up until I made the call, and the person who helped me somewhat confused about the test program. Lastly, the rewards numbers do not come close to what you think they would be and I have thus spent much more time and money at CVS where you get instant and better savings if you work the program. To work the new Rewards program you must be diligent in keeping track of your Rewards on your receipts and on-line, and you still can’t use those Rewards on the next visit. Your actual out of pocket dollars are the same as any other customer and you do not feel you have really saved or earned anything. Not the most exciting shopping experience.
