Maybe it’s just the fact that I was not raised in this country, but people are just going crazy with all these fireworks.
*Please don’t take that to mean I am not patriotic by an means*
Canada wasn’t that different and we celebrated things on July 1st, so I understand the fireworks, parades and such and actually enjoy the independance day celebrations here. What I don’t get is every year I see the same thing occuring, people who can’t afford to feed their kids going and spending an entire paycheck (or in some cases welfare check) on fireworks. I get the people who buy a handful and set them off for the kids. I get the people who go watch the city fireworks displays (myself included here). What I don’t get is why so many people are going out and spending 100 dollars… 300 dollars… some people I have heard of spending 600 dollars.
Maybe it’s just the rural township I live in, but the people setting the huge lots of fireworks off are for lack of better words… white trash. They are out there smoking cigarettes in their wife beater shirts setting off fireworks by the trunk load. They are the same people I see buying food at wal mart with food stamps, the same people I see walking to work (the ones who do actually work) because they can’t afford gas in the car. These same people who are barely getting by somehow manage to find 500 dollars to blow in 30 minutes of snap-crackle-pops.
I guess it just erks me when I am trying to put down my 1 year old to sleep at 9pm and all these white trash wahoo’s are setting off fireworks for hours on end, keeping my screaming infant from sleeping. Then to top it all off I go outside the next day the roads are covered in nasty crap, tons of papers and tubes and they never clean it up.
I guess this is more of a rant than an observation in the end. I just don’t get it. Any thoughts?

We had one guy in the Atlanta area who spent 1700 on fireworks. Bet he lives in one of the housing projects or a doublewide! Dumb and dumber.

People have no morals or raising nowadays. I’ve heard stories of people buying beer and won’t buy their kid a sucker or putting the beer in a seatbelt and not their kid.
As for the fireworks, the same goes for that. People have no concern for others when it comes to setting them off late. My 1 and 3-year-old couldn’t sleep either. They set them off until well after 1 am. People were drunk riding lawnmowers up and down the road in my neighbors’ yards. It’s turned into a party time rather than a celebration for the USA.

Exactly, it has turned into a celebration of senselessness and annoyance more than anything.

Wow, you all raise some good points I hadn’t thought of. Sad when the theme has shifted to “us” rather than “U.S.”
