I have been keeping everyone up to date with my progress on the Nielsen HomeScanner program… (You can see my last post about it here)
- At this time, you can now see if the Nielsen HomeScan rewards program is accepting new people in your area (as you fill out the questionnaire it will tell you if they’re accepting new people in your area)- I just started the program and so far, it sounds like fun and a great way to get more free stuff and rewards, for the shopping you already do.
- Even if you tried signing up before, they may now be accepting panelists in your area. We have heard from lots of people who were “rejected” before but have now been accepted into the program.
By joining the Nielsen consumer panel, you will have the ability to influence the products you see on store shelves when you go shopping. Be one of the lucky few. Join Nielsen’s Homescan Consumer Panel today! Click Here
As I mentioned last week, my Nielsen HomeScanner just arrived via UPS. So far, I have read the instructions and am in the process of charging the scanner. I just installed the HomeScan software on our computer, and we will do our first transmission soon!
You can see a picture of the scanner on its charging unit here. It sounds like there may be a few types of scanners available, depending on your computer and internet set up, so your scanner may look different.
Nielsen sent an instruction book that is very detailed and does a great job explaining the program. I am going to re-read it later after the scanner is charged, before we do our first transmission, as I want to make sure I don’t mess up our first tranmission, lol! Nielsen has already called to make sure I received the scanner and to answer any questions we had. (I haven’t spoken to them yet, but they left a message.) Nielsen has made it very clear that they are available to help us with any questions we have as we go along, which is great!
- One thing I want to mention to anyone who signs up for this program – be sure to keep the original box the scanner comes in, as you will need that box to return the scanner whenever you decide to quit the program. (You can quit at anytime, at no cost to you, if you decide the program is not for you.)
Well, that’s my brief update for now. I have a lot more to learn about the program in these next few weeks. After the scanner has charged up and I have submitted several times, you can expect another update, further explaining the program and how it works, as well as how it’s working for us.

I received a email today that said "Dear Potential Panel Member,
Thank you for your interest in joining the Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel! We are processing your information and will contact you within the next few weeks to update you on your status."
I am excited about this and hopefully it won't be long before I receive a scanner.

Jennifer – that's exciting! We'll keep you posted on our progress here too! Some people I've been in contact with have been members of this program for years now and are loving it, so I hope that's the case for us!

I have read alot of negative comments about this program. I try to be positive and hope it works for me. I am a stay at home mom so this will give me something to do while the kids are in school. I will keep you posted as I receive more info.

Don't forget to factor in the $10 a year in electricity it takes to keep the scanner running.

I would say the electricity cost will vary a lot depending on electricity prices where you live, also if you keep the scanner and/or charger plugged in all the time. I suspect our costs will be less than $10 a year for the scanner.

I received a Nielsen Homescan Shopping Survey today and wondered if that means im getting close to becoming a member?
Money Savin' Momma says
Jen – I believe so! We got that survey about a month before we received our scanner, so hopefully it won't be long now for you!

Thats so cool. I am excited about doing this. As for the $10 a year it takes to run the scanner if you think about it thats less then a $1.00 a month. I don't think you would see much of a difference in your electricity bill. I will keep you updated.

I received an email about my status. It said that my household is on thier Reserve Status Waiting List which means there isn't a scanner available. I hope it won't be too long before one is available. I'm excited about doing this especially now that my twins are in school it will give me something to do. As always I will keep you updated.
