We have received a great response to Get Fit 2010 (our fitness & weight loss group that will also feature some exciting givaways – you can read more about it here – be sure to read all the user comments… lots of great ideas!), and now Engineer and I are starting to get very excited about it! We will release more information and details about Get Fit 2010 next week. In the meantime, I want to ask you all for your advice and I have two questions for all of YOU…
1) To help us workout and stay fit, Engineer and I are considering getting a Nintendo Wii (you know I will hunt down a good deal on this and find it at a bargain price lol)! We have heard some good things some of the workout “games” you can get for the Wii, such as the Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board and Dance Dance Revolution.
- Do any of you own a Nintendo Wii and the Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board or Dance Dance Revolution? If so, do you like these games for exercise / fitness? Are there other fitness “games” you would recommend? Leave a comment please!
2) My absolute favorite workout is Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds Deluxe Edition. You can see the exact one I’ve used here. (You can get it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon for only $4.49 right now!!!!) Leslie Sansone has a bunch of Walk Away the Pounds DVDs. Check out the entire collection here. I love these because you basically do “power walks” by walking in the comfort of your own home. You need very little space to do these, and the workouts are quick! If you’re looking for a starter workout video, this is a great starting point!
- What are your favorite work out videos and DVD’s? I’m looking for new videos to try and would love to hear what ones you like! So let’s share our favorite work out videos and DVD’s in the comments…. Share what you like (or don’t like) about a particular DVD.

I’m a HUGE fan of TurboJam. It’s sold through an infomercial. Don’t get it on Amazon. Check eBay or Craigslist and make sure you know the retail through the website before buying it elsewhere.
I love the energy, but especially that she’s good at providing modified versions if you’re either not up to speed or don’t want a high impact workout. There are short 2-3 minute “turbo” boosts where you really raise your heart rate – one or more depending on the video. I especially love the fact that all the videos use the same core moves, but there are a number, which provides me with variation so I don’t get bored. They’re kick-boxing based (if you had to say something), but that’s really not doing them justice as a description. There are light hand weight toning based workouts, aerobic based workouts, and workout ball based workouts.
I started these when I was quite heavy and really not fit, so they’re doable by anyone. I highly recommend the series, and I personally have hated almost every other type of exercise I’ve ever tried.

My favorite workout DVD’s are Tracy Mallet’s Quick Blast Method series. We have the 6-minute Total Body Fat Burner and Total Body Calorie Blast. They are great for beginners and those that don’t have a lot of time.
I got both of my DVD’s from Amazon. My daughters and I love them!

I was just considering the same thing. I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between WII Fit and EA Active?

Your Shape is a cool concept put gets boring. In fact I actually just hosted a House Party for Your Shape and was sent Just Dance & Your Shape for free!!! I got an email they may be selecting more hosts for another date so if you’re interested sign up!!! If you’ve never heard of House Party its a site that chooses hosts to throw parties put on by specific sponsors like UbiSoft (the makers of the above mentioned video games), Oscar Meyer, Pull-Ups, and tons more. Its totally free and they send you awesome freebies for your parties! I have a coupon code from the last party so if anyone is gonna buy Your Shape off Amazon use coupon code YOURSHPE for $10.00 off your order (expires 1/31/10). Hope this helps, and a huge good luck to all…I’m 10lbs down since the new year and working my booty to keep the momentum going so a huge high five to the CAFM community for keeping each other motivated 🙂

I have the Wii Fit (original) and balance board. I really like it. I’m considering getting the Wii Fit Plus, though I haven’t heard much about it. I would love to hear feedback on that one, too. Wii Fit is a lot of fun. I really enjoy the hula hoops and step aerobics. I think they would be pretty effective if I actually used them with any regularity. 🙂

I love our Wii fit plus and balance board and I got them New for a great prices. I had $200 saved up in gift cards from transfering prescriptions. I paid $44.43 OOP for all the scripts which are of course a medical deduction on taxes.
I bought it on sale and had them price match the deal at walmart for the $50 gc, then used the coupon for target for the free nunchuck ($19.99). When it was all said n done I got our system for $119.01 (all paid for with gc).
Bought the wii fit plus and balance board at Toys R us. used a 20% off coupon got it for $79.99 used a $10 coupon for using TRU credit card $69.99 and then added 15 month replacemen plan for $12.99 (this way if kids break it or spill water on it its covered). Used GC from the various deals they had, had from the board games etc. I paid $27.47 OOP on the TRU credit card that I paid off before my bill and got a cupon for $5 off $25 purchase.
DH and I find it easy to work up a sweat playing the sports games, plus they are fun.
If you want extra remotes & nunchucks they are priced at about $25 including s&h on ebay, but they take a couple weeks to arrive since they ship from hong kong. sure beats the $60 for a remote n nunchuck in the states.

I received the Wii and the Wii Fit Plus for Christmas and I love it. My husband and I are competitive so we have fun trying to beat each others scores at games. I also received My Fitness Coach for the Wii and it is fun too. I like that you can pick how long you want to exercise and there is an option for as little as 15 minutes. With two little ones, sometimes that is all I can find in a day.
As far as DVD’s, I haven’t done any in awhile but I used to always like any by Denise Austin.

I own a Wii Fit and I love it! I had another baby in July and my husband got it for me for my birthday (at my request :). It took me over a year to lose the baby weight with my first and now 6 months later I only have 2 lbs to go!
I love the fact that I can spend 40 minutes in my home while my girls are napping and really get a good workout. I am so much more motivated to actually work out when I don’t have to find a sitter, drop my kids off, drive to the gym and so on.
I am a big fan of The Biggest Loser show so when I heard they had a Wii Fit game I worked it into the budget! 🙂 I take the trainer tips from the show and the Wii Fit “game” and it’s made a HUGE difference in my weight loss.
Another month and I will be past my pre-pregnancy weight and closer to my wedding weight!

Does anyone own EA Sports Active? I’ve heard good things about that one too.
Sharon, is your question about the best deals for the Wii Fit Plus with balance board and EA Sports Active, or are you also looking for a deal on the Wii too?
Mommas159 says
I LOVE the Wii Fit! We got it last year in January and I lost over 50 lbs during the year using it. (I was not an every day user the entire year) I love that it was easily adaptable to any fitness level. Once you get so far in the “game” of it you unlock the Free Step. It allows you to do step while watching TV or listing to your favorite music. I got very inventive and was almost dancing all around with weights and such. I’m sure I was quite a site!
To keep me going this year we just bought the Biggest Looser Wii Fit game. So far (2 weeks into it) I LOVE IT! The exercises are different, challenging but are still do-able. I like the tips and having the trainer right there with me to show the moves really keeps me from doing it wrong and either hurting myself or not maximizing my calorie loss. I highly recommend this game!
On a side note about it, unlike me, my husband is rather fit but he also finds value in the work outs of the Biggest Looser, they are forcing him to move and work muscles that he typically does not. He has worked out beside me every morning and has already lost 1.25 inches on his waist. (1.25 inches is a big deal for someone already fit, for someone fluffier like me, its not noticeable! lol!)
