Easy Homemade Playdough Recipe
Here’s a great Easy Homemade Playdough Recipe that you can make in less than 10 minutes! Wondering how to make homemade playdough? It’s easier than you think! To me, homemade playdough just feels better in your hands, Â and it smells better too. Â I also love that I can create the amount, color, and scent that I want with just a few pantry or other ingredients. Â Of course, the best feature of this Easy Homemade Playdough Recipe is that you know what ingredients are going in, and therefore you know it is safe for your little ones. Â This recipe does make a very generous amount of dough but kept in an airtight container it has always had a long shelf life for us. I prefer to make one large batch and divide it into separate colors to give them a variety of options. This homemade playdough also makes a great gift in a pretty container, with instructions for a new batch written on a handmade tag! Once you make it yourself and see how easy and how much nicer it is than store bought playdough, you will be addicted tp this Easy Homemade Playdough Recipe! There are many version of homemade playdough-cook and non cook, but this simple recipe is my favorite for the best texure.
Ingredients for the Easy Homemade Playdough Recipe:
3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups salt
3 cups water
3 Tbsp. vegetable or coconut oil
2 Tbsp. cream of tartar
optional food coloring
Directions for Easy Homemade Playdough Recipe:
Place all ingredients in a large saucepan on medium heat (I purchased an inexpensive pot just for making playdough).
Cook, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the mixture begins to pull to center and from a solid blob (5 minutes or less).
Remove dough from pan and allow it to cool until it is ready to be comfortably handled.
Separate dough into as many colors as you would like to make.
Add a few drops of food coloring to each dough ball and knead to mix color throughout ( rubber gloves are a good idea here unless you want to end up with tie dyed hands).
Place playdough in an airtight container and it should last for several months.
We keep ours in ziploc baggies and pull it out almost daily, with a few tools. It keeps the kids busy for hours.

This will be a fun activity to do with my 2 granddaughters. I have all the necessary ingredients. The girls love to play with PlayDoh but now they’ll be able to make their own Playdough. Thanks for the recipe!

Oh such memories this brings back when I made it for my kids. They always had fun with it.

I love this recipe, I have tried another recipe but it didn’t call for the cream of tartar, Now what is the difference if you don’t use the cream of tartar, I don’t remember that is why I am asking LOLL..

You have taken playdough to a whole new and “professional” level. When I was young…way way back, we only used a mixture of flourand water..you can imagine the mess, and since you appear to retain a little childish funside, you can still enjoy the fun.
Good on you.

My youngest daughter’s speech therapist made homemade playdough once, but I couldn’t remember how she made it. I’m glad to find the recipe again! Thanks for sharing at Inspire Me Mondays!
