Homemade Heating Pad
Winter can bring aches, pains, and headaches but I have a favorite comfort item that is simple to make! It just takes just a minute to prepare for easing tired muscles or pounding heads. I was inspired by this pretty one here on Scratchmommy.com, making mine a bit longer and using flannel to be more comforting in the winter weather! While this easy diy is great to make to keep on hand for yourself, it also makes a thoughtful gift for friends and family. You can use a variety of pretty flannels to make them unique. From the comforting warmth to the soft texture and the relaxing scent of lavender, this Homemade Heating Pad is a winner.

Homemade Heating Pad
For this Homemade Heating Pad / DIY Heating Pack you will need:
6 cups white rice
12″ x 24″ flannel fabric
2 T. dried lavender flowers
8-20 drops lavender essential oil
Directions for the Homemade Heating Pad:
If you have not yet, cut your flannel into a 12″ x 24″ length.
Fold in half lengthwise, right side to right side, sew up one end, down the length, and halfway across the other end.
Turn tube right side out.
Next, in a large bowl, stir together rice, lavender, and essential oil. Mix it well to distribute the essential oil evenly.
Pour or funnel rice mixture into flannel tube.
Tuck unsewn part inward, you can either do a hidden stitch inside by hand or just sew all the way across with the machine.
To use your Homemade Heating Pad:
Heat in microwave for approximately 1 minute. After 1 minute, carefully check to see how warm the pad is. If you want the pad warmer, heat it again in 30 second increments, checking the temperature after every 30 seconds so it doesn’t get too hot. When it is a nice temperature and feels ready to use, gently place it on your neck, back, knee, or wherever you need heat and aromatherapy. Use it for 10 minutes at a time, and then take a 10 minute break before you use it again. Be careful not to fall asleep with it on! 🙂
