Homemade Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Homemade Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Ingredients for Homemade Peppermint Sugar Scrub:

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup coconut oil, melted

2 tsp. rosehip or almond oil-optional

8-10 drops peppermint essential oil

8-10 peppermints

img_2763

Directions:

Place the mints in a mini food processor or coffee grinder. Pulverize until they are dust. We have purchased a coffee grinder just for our diy beauty projects, and you may want to consider this if you plan on doing a lot of DIY beauty products too!

img_2764

Combine sugar, oils, and peppermint dust in a large bowl.

img_2765Add peppermint essential oil to scent to your desired strength. We like ours pretty strong so it leaves a wonderful scent behind and the aroma is great for cold season as well.

img_2767

Stir well to combine ingredients thoroughly.

img_2768

Transfer the sugar scrub to a pint mason jar or other container with a tight fitting lid and keep in a dry place. Also we suggest NOT placing a glass jar anywhere in your bathroom. If you plan to keep it there, use a plastic jar to avoid breakage!

To use: Scoop out a generous amount of scrub and vigorously scrub onto wet skin in bath or shower, rinse skin well and pat dry with a towel. Rinse shower floor out well, as it can make it slippery.

Homemade Dishwasher Tablets

Ingredients:

½ cup epsom salts

1 cup washing soda

1 cup borax

2 tsp. finely grated lemon or lime peel

¾ cup fresh lemon or lime juice (pick your favorite)

Optional-essential oils

img_28101

Directions for Homemade Dishwasher Tablets:

Combine washing soda, borax, grated lemon peel and epsom salt in a large bowl and stir until well mixed. We used some dried orange peel we had on hand from another project, but you could use fresh orange peel like we normally do.

Drop in essential oil to your desired scent strength and mix.

img_28121

Add lemon or lime juice and quickly mix together with your hands.

img_28111

Use  a 1 T. measuring spoon to scoop up the mixture, press in firmly, and gently flip out into your hand. img_28141Lay on a sheet of waxed paper and allow to dry for several hours. You could also put your dishwasher tablet mixture in a mold, or silicone ice cube. We think candy molds work best and are the easiest to remove your tablets from.

img_28161

Place your tablets in a container with a tight fitting lid. They should fit perfectly in a 1 quart mason jar.

To use: Place one tablet in the soap section of your dishwasher. Or, if it doesn’t fit just pop it in the bottom of dishwasher.

DIY Cork Coasters

Looking for a quick and simple handmade gift idea? Make these DIY Cork Coasters as simple or as elaborate as you like using paint pens and twine.

DIY Cork Coasters

DIY Cork Coasters make a great gift- they are inexpensive, easy to make, and useful- a winning idea all the way around. They are simple enough that kids can make them and turn it into an even sweeter and more personal gift for family, friends, even teachers.  The texture and color of cork and twine are the perfect, versatile canvas for artwork to go with any home decor. All items can be found at your local craft store (don’t forget those coupons!)

Supplies Needed:

4 cork  coasters

paint pens

twine

hot glue gun/glue stick

Directions:

Sketch out your design ideas on a piece of scrap paper.

If you don’t feel comfortable with artwork do something simple like polka dots, a monogram initial, swirl shapes, or circles, But you can also be as elaborate as handwriting words, quotes, and images that match the recipients decor.

Draw your design on coaster lightly with a pencil or free hand it.

Get paint pen going on paper until it is flowing smoothly and you have the hang of the pressure you need to draw.

Draw design on coaster with paint pen.

diy coasters paint

Allow to dry for a couple hours.

Use a thin twine or rope that is roughly the thickness of your cork, apply a generous bead of hot glue around cork 3” at a time and press twine into it until you reach the end, trim and add a bit more hot glue to the end to keep it from unraveling.

Once your coasters are dry tie them up in a pretty ribbon for gifting.

Ginger and almond make an amazing combination in this moisturizing homemade body wash that smells incredible and washes your skin soft and clean.  I love creating my own bath and body products at home- customized scents, safer ingredients, AND they make fantastic gifts for friends and family.  Mom, sis, the mail lady, dog groomer, your child’s teacher… they all love decadent homemade products like this body wash.  While it does not suds up like store bought because it is missing sulfates (an ingredient that is potentially harmful and drying to your skin), it is still rich and moisturizing.

Ginger Almond Homemade Body Wash

Ginger & Almond Body Wash

Ingredients:

1 cup unscented liquid castile

½ cup coconut oil

½ cup almond oil

1 cup water

10-12 drops ginger essential oil

homemade body wash

Directions:

I am also an avid hoarder upcyler, so I keep a lot of my old bottles from body wash, shampoo, etc. to put my new creations in. I have no shame in asking family members to keep them for me either.

Remove the label from your container then remove top.

Use a funnel to pour water, castile soap, almond oil, and coconut oil into bottle.

homemade body wash pour

Add essential oil directly to bottle opening so you don’t waste what sticks to funnel.

homemade body wash essential oil

Swirl gently to combine.

I made a double batch for this large bottle, you can do the same or try a smaller container.

To use:

Squirt directly onto skin or into bath pouf, rub over skin, rinse.

Shake well before every use.

Body wash may leave shower or tub slick, rinse well after with hot water.
