Can I really make money with legitimate mystery shopping jobs?
Yes, it is possible to make extra money with legitimate mystery shopping jobs. I have been doing mystery shopping for several months now. I am here to tell you that it is possible to make money as a mystery shopper, even if you live in the middle of nowhere. When I first signed up as a mystery shopper, I figured that because we live about 2 hours from a city, there would be very few mystery shopping jobs available. However, I have been very pleased to find lots of mystery shopping jobs in our local area.

How much money can you expect to make from mystery shopping?
The amount of money you can make from mystery shopping varies greatly. I have been offered as much as $50 for a fast food shop. Most seem to pay around $10 – $20 per shop, plus reimbursement of any purchases you make as part of the shop (such as for food or retail goods). You will not get rich from mystery shopping, but it is fun getting free food and getting extra money.

What do I need to know before I become a mystery shopper?
Mystery shopping is not a way to “get rich quick.” You will not become a millionaire from being a mystery shopper, but you can certainly make some extra cash this way. Also, mystery shopping can be hard work. You must be very detail oriented. If you are not, you will not be successful as a mystery shopper. Mystery shopping requires that you read complex and detailed instructions, and then follow those instructions exactly. If you do not follow the exact directions of the mystery shop, you will not get paid. Mystery shopping is not the same as “shopping for fun.” You are working when you are mystery shopping, as you have to concentrate on observing and remembering every detail of the transaction.
Tips on how to be a successful mystery shopper
1) When scheduling a mystery shop, plan to devote at least half of your day to mystery shopping. The mystery shop itself can take several hours. After completing the shop, you will need to immediately submit the mystery shopping report and any receipts online. Submitting the report also takes several hours.
2) Make sure you have a working scanner, computer, and internet connection. After you have completed the shop, you generally have 6 – 12 hours to submit the report and receipts. If you do not submit everything in time, your shop is invalid. Therefore, you want to make sure your scanner is working, as you will need to scan your purchase receipts to submit with the report.
3) Do not reschedule mystery shops, except in case of an emergency. Rescheduling shops may cause you to be offered less mystery shopping jobs in the future.
