I decided to learn German, as I hope to visit Germany in the coming year or so. I had taken a German course in college, but had nothing more since then. I started with some of the basic classes and was pleased with my experience.
To schedule classes, you first need to purchase credits. You can purchase credits for group classes, or individual classes. I had a chance to try some of both types of classes. Both were excellent. I enjoyed interacting with other students in the group classes, but also enjoyed the one-on-one attention I received in the private classes. In the group classes, I got to have classes with people from all over the world, which I loved. The teachers were also in different countries and continents.
In my German classes, I had some teachers who were native German speakers, and some teachers who were fluent in German, but not a native speaker. I preferred the classes with the native teachers, as when I am learning a language, I want to learn directly from native speakers. But all the classes were a great experience. When signing up for classes, you can select the name of the class you want, but you cannot select a specific teacher, unless a teacher has already been assigned to a certain class and time slot.
There are classes available almost 24/7, including week days and weekends, so it is easy to find a class time that works for you. I recommend scheduling out as far ahead as possible to get the best selection of class times. Also, I found that I sometimes had classes with some of the same students if I progressed along in the recommended class order for Lingoda. However, you are not required to take the classes in order, and you can skip around or pick and choose the classes that seem to be the best fit for you.
The courses are offered live and online via Zoom, so it is super easy to join a class. I loved being able to interact live with the teacher and other students. In my opinion, this is simply the best online format for language learning. Much more effective than simple apps since you have a live interactive experience. This is great for asking questions and getting live feedback on your pronunciations. I felt like I was really able to advance my language learning quickly with Lingoda, and the teachers were all very friendly and approachable. All the teachers at Lingoda are actual language teachers, and not just random people who are signing up to teach like you might find on other apps or language sites.
All in all, I highly recommend Lingoda for language learning. It’s a wonderful interactive experience and makes learning a language fun and easier than other sites and apps.
