Did you know Kmart offers 20% off for unemployed customers? It’s called the Smart Assist Savings Program and allows unemployed customers to get 20% off Kmart brand items for 6 months. You will need to show proof that you are on unemployment in your state of residence to qualify for this discount program. Be sure to share this info with anyone you know who is currently unemployed.  Get more info below:

Do you know if they also provide this to people who are unemployed but not on unemployment? I receive long term disability insurance due to back problems and am unemployed but do not receive unemployment. Any idea if they would accept that?

Your best bet is to contact your local Kmart – you could call them or contact Kmart corporate too.

Which is great for those out there fortunate enough to get unemployment. But there are plenty of us who are unemployed and DO NOT receive unemployment, or any other form of income and/or assistance. We could really use that discount. I know I for one could use it for diapers.

I can see where it could get taken advantage of, but it doesn’t help everyone who’s unemployed, sadly.

    Will do, thanks.

Yes, that discount would definitely be helpful on diapers! Although I kind of stocked up on good deals at diapers.com (price match+first time customer discount) and finding some diapers 30% off at Target. But hey, you never quite have enough.

You needed to apply by Jan. 31st so its not valid anymore.

The “official terms” do say that, but as far as I know, some Kmarts are still taking applications, and they are still promoting the program on their website. Your best bet is to check at Kmart the next time you’re there to see your local store’s policy. The card expires in 6 months, so if you apply now, you would still have over 5 months.

i actually just signed up today… it’s still valid. and it’s still for a full 6 months from when you sign up. so mine doesn’t expire til 8/31/10.

Thanks for the update. My understanding was it was still working, especially since they are promoting it on their website, but it could vary from store to store. Thanks again for letting us know you were able to sign up today!
