Do you know one of the easiest ways I save money every month? I do not drink soda (or pop, or coke, or carbonated beverages – whatever you call it in your part of the world). That’s right. I do not drink it AT ALL.
Have you ever stopped to think about how expensive soda really is? Many people buy soda from the vending machines at work every single day. Others get soda every time they eat out. Think how much money you could save if you drink water instead. (not to mention how much healthier drinking water is….!)
I challenge all of you to stop drinking soda for one month. Every time you would have bought a soda, (whether at work, at the grocery store, or when eating out) put the money you would have used in a jar. At the end of the month, take the money from the jar and put it in your savings account. (Or use it towards buying something else you’ve been NEEDING – not wanting – for awhile.) If everyone in your family does this, you will be surprised at how much money you save. Trust me on this. I do not drink soda, ever (unless it is the only option at a party or something like that, lol). And it saves us a TON of money.
Yes, it could be argued you could do the same thing with coffee… but I’ll save that for another future post, lol! 🙂
So, is anyone brave enough to take me up on the “no soda” challenge for a month? 🙂 I’d love to hear your comments on this and how much you save if you do!

I have been doing the no soda thing for a few years now. I did it slowly. In college I drank a few a day. Then I weaned myself down to one a day, then 1/2 a can a day, then switched to caffeine free 1/2 can a day. Now I rarely have soda and certainly not if I have to pay for it! 🙂 So if I am at a friends house having pizza and they have soda I will split one with my DH.
For my kids they rarely have soda, but we do have Soda Saturday where they can choose 1/2 can of root beer for their sweet thing for the day. (we only have 1 sweet thing a day) I think the last 12 pack I bought was in 08 and it there are still cans left out in the garage!

Good for you for being mindful of what you put into your body! (and saving money)
I stopped drinking soda about two years ago. I will have one occasionally, but it is rare for me to drink soda. If I am somewhere that I don’t have a choice, I will have a soda, I am not a fanatic about it! but, I can honestly say I don’t miss it. I find that I drink a lot more tea which is better for me anyway.

I’ve never liked soda, but my husband used to take a Ginger Ale every day in his lunch that I bought at the grocery store. He started taking hot tea in a thermos (Tazo Passion) instead. And in 1 week, lost 5 pounds. ha! Box of even this expensive tea is pennies a teabag/serving compared to a can of soda.

We don't drink pop (in Michigan it's pop) at this house either! It was a special treat to buy Faygo 2 liters when they were on sale for 58 cents each last week. But generally speaking we stick to water, juice & milk. It is a lot healthier also to drink water.

My kids are pretty good at drinking water. We buy soda on occasion but not something we keep stocked in our house.

At my house, we drink water.
Once or sometimes twice a month we will have some lemonade or juice, but water at all three meals works at house house!
