I mentioned recently the 5 baby items I can’t live without, and now I want to share one final children’s item that I can’t live without. It is totally, absolutely, 100% GROSS. I mean GROSS. Some of you will absolutely FREAK OUT. If you have a weak stomach, please stop reading now…. don’t say you weren’t warned…. 🙂
This product can be used on babies and toddlers, and well, I suppose on older children too if you had to…. What on earth is this item? It is called NoseFrida, or AKA “THE SNOT SUCKER”.
Basically, you use the little contraption shown above to literally “suck” the snot out of your kiddo’s nose. You put the red end in your mouth, the pointy blue thing *gently* at the end of your child’s nose and suck away. 🙂 Don’t worry, there is no way the snot can go into your mouth. I have used this TONS of times on both kiddos. Believe me, this thing actually works. Will the child like it any more than the nasal bulbs? Probably not (ours actually like it maybe 10% better), but boy does this thing suck out the snot. It’s only $11, and it was some of the best money I’ve ever spent. If you can stomach the idea of using this, you won’t be disappointed, and you won’t believe how much snot this thing takes out. Our kiddos breathe so much better when I use this. At first I was totally grossed out, but now I suck away and don’t think twice. 🙂
ASK THE READERS: Have any others of you used this? What is your “grossest can’t live without children’s item”? 🙂

I’m curious, does this get more snot out on average that what a nasal bulb would?? I just might get me one, if it does!!

We have a contraption similar to this called the Pigeon but doesn’t need the disposable filters like the Nosa does. You are right- it really does work- and once you get used to it- its not really gross- I’ve never had anything get through the tube on my end!

Barbara – yes!!! That is why I love this thing. You literally will not believe how much snot is in your kiddos nose until you use one of these. If you use it properly, it will clear out all the snot. (which will of course build back up through the day if your kiddo is sick and need to be sucked out again)

Tanya – I had seen that one too, glad to know it works. It’s fascinating how these devices have caught on in other countries (like that one is from Japan), but haven’t yet here in the U.S.

How does the snot not get into your mouth??? And then how do you get the snot out of it – do you take it out of the nose and then blow it out into tissue/sink/toilet/etc?
Money Savin' Momma says
A the top of the hose there is a place that the snot cannot get through (near the filter), as the area kind of “caps” off right there. You can take the whole thing apart when you’re done and clean it under the sink. You don’t have to blow it out at that point, just rinse it under the sink with hot soapy water. I find it easier to clean than the nasal bulb.

I gagged the first time I used this, but it really WORKS! My little one laughs when she sees me coming, but with the bulb she throws a fit!
