Looking for a quick and simple handmade gift idea? Make these DIY Cork Coasters as simple or as elaborate as you like using paint pens and twine.

DIY Cork Coasters

DIY Cork Coasters make a great gift- they are inexpensive, easy to make, and useful- a winning idea all the way around. They are simple enough that kids can make them and turn it into an even sweeter and more personal gift for family, friends, even teachers.  The texture and color of cork and twine are the perfect, versatile canvas for artwork to go with any home decor. All items can be found at your local craft store (don’t forget those coupons!)

Supplies Needed:

4 cork  coasters

paint pens

twine

hot glue gun/glue stick

Directions:

Sketch out your design ideas on a piece of scrap paper.

If you don’t feel comfortable with artwork do something simple like polka dots, a monogram initial, swirl shapes, or circles, But you can also be as elaborate as handwriting words, quotes, and images that match the recipients decor.

Draw your design on coaster lightly with a pencil or free hand it.

Get paint pen going on paper until it is flowing smoothly and you have the hang of the pressure you need to draw.

Draw design on coaster with paint pen.

Allow to dry for a couple hours.

Use a thin twine or rope that is roughly the thickness of your cork, apply a generous bead of hot glue around cork 3” at a time and press twine into it until you reach the end, trim and add a bit more hot glue to the end to keep it from unraveling.

Once your coasters are dry tie them up in a pretty ribbon for gifting.
